DAVID BETTENCOURT
writer, director, and producer

David Bettencourt is an Emmy-nominated independent filmmaker who has been writing, directing and producing documentary films since 2006.
His first feature film,
You Must Be This Tall:  The Story of Rocky Point Park, was a regional hit, garnering a 5-star review in the Providence Journal,
and spending seven weeks on screens across New England.

In
On the Lake:  Life and Love in a Distant Place, Bettencourt and producer G. Wayne Miller explored the historical impact of the tuberculosis
epidemic in America and suggested that the infectious disease is long from forgotten.  The film was nominated for Best Documentary at the 33rd
Boston/New England Emmy Awards May 2010.  The film
has also been aired on over thirty PBS stations across the country.

In 2010, David directed two more feature documentaries: It’s a Bash!, chronicling the nearly 30-year career of Providence punk band Neutral Nation,
and
Behind the Hedgerow, an intimate and inside look at life in the aristocratic society of Newport, Rhode Island. David graduated from the graduate
film program at Boston University in 2001 and still proudly resides in his home state of Rhode Island.
